Before alpha5 I could send a sysex bank from REAPER to my external synth by just inserting the file at the start of a track and playing it. Now my Motif hangs at "Receiving bulk data..." and REAPER hangs with no transport movement. I know there have been some new additions in the Sysex area, so what would you suggest I use now to transmit this data? The .syx file is 1415 bytes, and it's fine if I use eg. MIDI-OX or Bome, or send it as a bank from SONAR. The bank sends info in addition to patch changes and I see I can send a sysex instruction via ReaControlMIDI, but I'd like to just send the whole thing at once. Thanks- -Susan

That sysex does appear to be sent properly from Reaper, and is received intact by a device listening on the MIDI stream. Did that specific sysex dump work previously? Do shorter dumps (less than 256 bytes) work?

If it worked previously, that's enough information. It does work here, and the code that reads .syx files and sends to MIDI outputs hasn't changed. Any hardware changes? Does the problem persist after a reboot (which would clear any error in the Windows MIDI handler)?

And the best question is, if you install 3.0alpha3, or 2.58, do those currently work? :) -Justin

Hi Justin & Schwa- I rebooted and tried again, same result except this time I had to do a hard boot to get back up & running. Before, REAPER usually stopped hanging if I shut off the Motif. Re other versions/changes: I tried the same project just now in 2.58 and the same thing happened, except REAPER eventually let go without a hard boot. Two changes since this was working in REAPER -- I enabled an onboard sound card for testing with something else, and I installed MIDI-Yoke and MIDI-OX. I can eliminate those and try again. It's not a universal problem on my system, since I can send the same bank via MIDI-OX or SONAR with no problems. Thanks- -Susan

I disabled my onboard sound card and uninstalled MIDI-OX and MIDI Yoke, rebooted and tried sending the file with the .syx item again. No change. I concede it must be due to some change in my system, since it used to work fine, but OTOH I still have no problems sending it via MIDI-OX, Bome, or SONAR. I suppose it's time to give up ;), but I sure wish I knew what happened and how to fix it. It's a bit of a pain as it stands. Thanks- -Susan

Just wanted to say that this works again in the new alpha, and I didn't change anything since I last tested it in previous versions. REAPER no longer stalls sending the sysex file. -Susan
