The difference -Registered and Unregistered memory

Hi there i have an old PC with ABIT KR7A Mboard,that i use for softsynths only and i wanna max out the RAM.The manual say that this board supports up to 3GB unregistered and up to 4GB registered DDR 266/2100.Can someone explaine the difference???Thanks!!!

Larger RAM modules have significantly higher capacity loads for their signal lines.
