RE: multipass VBR or Robshot?

@all guys, there should be more than 4 who uses CCE for encoding :) please vote your way! @jdobbs but with single pass, you cant predict the file size, so it couldnt fit the dvdr. am I wrong? and if you cant tell the difference, why you choose robshot method instead of 4pass vbr? :sly: . dont blame if it is a stupid question! :)

RE: multipass VBR or Robshot?

@serdar, You're right. You can't predict the size very exactly in single pass, but after you've done a few you can guess pretty close based on the complexity of the video and the Q factor. Since most home videos aren't very long it typically doesn't matter, as they will fit pretty easily anyway. The other option if the source is short enough is to just max out at a constant bitrate... jdobbs

RE: multipass VBR or Robshot?

I tend to favour the RobShot method, but generally find I can just make one 1xVBR pass (at Q=25), (to get the vaf file), and then alter the bitrate GLOBALLY, rather than incrementally, on a local-level, and I get great results from the subsequent (*single*) "multi-pass". As I mentioned in another thread, U get greta results with 2.66, whereas there were times with previous builds when I was not particularly happy with the outcome. Arky ;o)

RE: multipass VBR or Robshot?

thanks to all you guys for replies! is there any documention about that, if CCE use the VAF file, for single pass? I mean, if we do single pass, do we really need to do vaf? it is selected by default for single pass in cce, but i'm deeply suspicious about cce use that vaf file for single pass... i think cce use the vaf file only for multipass, or for using advanced settings.

CCE doesn't use the VAF for single pass, but it does create it, making improvement through additional passes possible. The CCE Manual is the best place to read about this. It's available in PDF format with the Trial version (at least with 2.50).
