.TS to .mpg conversion sync problem Grrrr

Ok here is the story. I got some .TS files that are slightly larger than a single layer DVD. I figure, lets try to turn them to .mpg and move on from there to tinker with them. I use HDTV2mpeg and I receive a larget .mpg file....DOH, why is it 100mb larger? it's the same data...after all it could only get smaller if the transport stream contained any extra info... So I do this experiment, I demux the video and the sound and guess what...the video and audio file I get, if you add the file sizes are much smaller....then I think "let's re-mux them", I do and the resulting .mpg is about 100-150mb smaller than the original that came from the .TS file....DOH. Why is that? I don't really care, but I think, here is the way to fit those files to DVDs, just turn them to .mpg...but then another problem arises, the final .mpg file is out of sync!!! I guess it's a multiplexor problem so I try different apps, but the result is the same, I try to change teh sync from the multiplexor but again the result is not satisfying... Then I read on the net, Mpeg2vcr is the prefered aplicaton to turn .TS to .mpg, and I guess, if it doesn't require demux and remux maybe it won't spoil the sync....but the result although correct in size, is again out of sync... What do do dammit? I am bored of tinkering....any ideas?

It shouldn't matter what you use to multiplex them together unless a delay is added all should produce exactly the same output. If you are not using ProjectX to demux, then try that, it usually sorts out any problems.

FYI. If you are talking HD, most MPEG-2 multiplexers do not handle HD mux rates correctly (at least in their default settings), including Mpeg2vcr and ProjectX.

ok, so what should I do? is there some muxer that supports HD? is there some other way to solve my initial problem without demux and remux? (some transport stream to program stream convertor that avoids increasing the size)

If you run your source files through Mpeg2repair, it will strip out the unused channels (PIDs), leaving you with a Transport Stream file that consists of only the main video and audio track. Not the fastest app around, though. Your other option is to download the 2 week eval of VideoRedo, which will pull out the unused PIDs, and leave you with a plain ol' MPG file (or transport stream, your choice).

Why don't you just edit out a small piece, say at the begining or end (like 5 seconds of the credits). Videoredo will work wonders for that.

I have already cut off the credits and stuff, and I need to cut off another 35 seconds to get rid of those 57mb .....35secs of pure video is not really an option I think...
