reaper is recording other tracks with input

Ive been recording guitar tracks and when soloing the track realized it is also recording a low volume copy of the backing track i am following into the same track as the guitar. Im using asio4all because it is the only option that will get any meters to show up. Other methods produce sound but reaper does not register the sound coming in. What would cause it to record other tracks with the mic. I have even turned the mics down in my soundcard options and it still does it. All i have to do is arm a track and hit record and it ads whatever is playing to the track just low in the background. It stands out clearly as soon as i ad any amp vst plugins. Ive also tried in sonar producer x2 and it is doing the same thing. In asio settings it is set to use mic for input and the right output. I dont understand why it is combining the master sound into the newly recorded tracks at a low volume. Its driving me mad. Im using an h4n with guitar plugged in and outputting from headphone jack to mic. So this has to be a problem in the daw. I would use the h4n as an interface but the latency makes in unusable.

RE: reaper is recording other tracks with input

Hello brianfury1208 and welcome to these forums. You'll find many helpful people here and a lot of useful information. As it occurs in both DAWs it is, I reckon, a problem with routing in your audio interface (what one are you using?), Check the configuration to see what's going on there. It sounds like the audio output from either DAW is being combined with the new audio from the mic and the whole lot passed back into the DAW where it is recorded. I do not know if ASIO4All can loop-back audio output into the input stream.

That is exactly what is happening. Im using asio4all with realtek hd. It didnt used to happen and now it happens on both programs. Even if i just hit record and dont play anything when i play back the newly recorded track it contains the backing track at low volume.

RE: reaper is recording other tracks with input

the mixer of the realtek is prone to record the mic of a build in or extern webcam. that is the fault of logitech, because it puts under all circumstances the webcam micro into every audio path thats available. I had a year long a fight with that bullshit, because after every restart of the computer logitech set everythign to their defaults. so if you have a webcam built in or extern: switch it off. deinstall it. if its from logitech: burn it and throw the ashes into a big, big ocean. if there is no webcam ... well, then I would have nonetheless a very close into the realtek mixer. as far as I know does asio4all nothing like loopback for audio or something. never seen anything like that in it.

The webcam is a built in cam on an msi laptop. It isnt a logiteck cam and it hasnt been enabled so i dont think its that. And if it were how would it be able to pickup sound that is only being output into headphones. For some reason it is recording the master sound into the input but nothing is setup to rout the sound that way. I disabled it in device manager so ill see if that changes anything.

just did a test. i dissabled the mic and turned down all mic inputs hit record and started talking. It is recording my voice somehow muffled and low. Im wondering if maybe the h4n isnt setup properly but then that wouldnt explain why it records the backing track that is only being played into headphones that cant be heard outside of them.

It is doing it when i use line in as well. This is driving me crazy. Ive re installed drivers and everything. Turned off any mics there are. My webcam is disabled in device manager and i cant find a single person with this problem using google. I dont know how its picking anything up to record. Im using in ear buds that you can not hear anything coming from for any onboard mic to be able to pick it up. The sound it is recording is low and distant sounding but there is no audible sound coming from the computer for it to record. I cant get any sound with any option besides asio4all either. With a clean channel you almost cant hear it its veeeery low but as soon as i ad vst plugins to bring the sound out boom its now noticeable.

RE: reaper is recording other tracks with input

You are picking up the output from the mixer. On the track you are recording to, right click on Input/Output button in the track control panel "I/O", disable "Master Send". I/O will turn red. Record. Click I/O again when finished recording that track, I/O it will change away from red and you will have your track recorded now without leakage or overspill from other tracks. Yep, that will drive you crazy when laying down tracks, cheers

I am using brand new YAMAHA MG16XU . I discovered you have to turn down the USB in 15/16 channel or it loops back thru and records.Alternately you could shut that channel off. There are other parameters to be sure but wanted to share NOW
