Rocksmith guitar cable vs 'real' interface?

MessageAuthor

I am using the Rocksmith guitar cable as my interface. It seems to work OK, but I have no experience at this. Do you think this is adequate for a hobbyist, or should I be looking at a 'real' interface? I want to record guitar only. Thanks for any advice. Skip

Opps. No responses. I feared my question might be too dumb, sorry about that. I think I know the answer now; "If you are just a hobbyist, and you like the way your rocksmith cable sounds, just use it and don't worry about an expensive hardware interface." PS: I am having a blast learning to use Reaper. Hopefully learning new stuff like this will keep my brain sharp, now that I am a retired old geezer.

I think what you have is most definitely fine, but as you learn to use reaper you'll probably want to expand your palette. For instance, you may eventually want to get an interface with midi in/out support so you can record virtual instruments. some day you might want to record your acoustic guitar, etc. it seems like you're already starting to see the limitations of your rocksmith cable. That being said, its still a good way to learn to use reaper. That being said, welcome to reaper! I'm still pretty new around here, too, but rest assured that everyone here is friendly and helpful. I would say keep learning about reaper and try and think about what you hope to accomplish with it someday. After you have an idea of your goals, we can help you find the right interface for your needs. Best of luck, Al B.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply Al. I guess my goal right now, is to amuse myself. So the bar is kind of low. I played when I was a teenager, and thought it would be nice to re-learn now that I am retired. My, how some things have changed since the sixties, while other things haven't. I was surprised to discover the Fender Deluxe Reverb amp and Mustang guitar are somewhat in vogue again, this is what I used to have. On the other hand, modelling amps came as a surprise. Also, I was amazed at the sound I get out of Line 6's pocket pod. Maybe I didn't need to buy a new amp after all, since I only play for myself. I won't mention that part to my wife.. I see that I am rambling again.
