Hi! Make your life easier - use "RipIt4Me". In conjunction with DVD Decrypter, FixVTS, and DVD Shrink, it fully automates the PSL and cleanup procedures ;>}
ok, downloaded the program that looks pretty straight forward, but what is your thought on the DVD Shrink program that it offers to launch at the end? Is this the same idea as my current DVD 2 One...which seems to have been more reliable so far than some others.
--------------------- From Codeman in the picture rating thread:
@dinghy DVD Shrink is very similiar in intent as DVD2One... but has a different approach to it. Since DVD Shrink analizes the entire DVD when deciding on how compressible the source is, it tends to pick up non-compliance issues other software might miss. Bad sector commands (which are a threat when removing material from a source rip... or even a threat of being introduced upon removal of "protected" sectors on newer Sony disks) usually appear in DVD Shrink with error messages, which tip you off that something's not right with your source rip. It's been awhile since I've used DVD2One, so I'm not sure if Edwin has added any sort of analysis feature to his software since I stopped using it... but the launching of DVD Shrink is sort of a way of giving yourself another chance at catching a problem before investing time and materials encoding/burning. It doesn't use much hard drive space and doesn't interfer with other programs (uninstalling is pretty clean, too, should you decide you don't like using it), so at the very least, you risk nothing by trying it. {Edit} Do you have DVD Decrypter (as opposed to DVD Fab Decrypter, Magic Ripper, ect) installed on your system? That's the specific program that RipIt4Me supports. It will also ask you for a path for FixVTS, which you only need to supply once; RipIt4Me will remember that path from then on.

ok, i can almost rip an easy (no psl needed) with rip it 4 me, but then at the end, it tells me it can't open the log. i've tried every way i can figure with this thing. it did ask for the fix vts path, wich i gave it, but it tells me i have an old version--i do not, i have 1.4 and 1.401. nothing works for basic instinct or "fun with dick and jane" which most often causes the program to tell me it has encountered an error and needs to shut down. If i could just get the program to even make me a psl file, i could import it- yes i do have dvd decrypter. backed up hundreds of dvd's and it is killing me that only a few have me beat.
Point to v1.401 of fixVTS in the preferences. Everyone else can back these DVDs up, no trouble. Are you on Win98? The prog is not rated for W98. And the log is transferred to a special folder which XP has but W98 doesn't. If this is the case, read my previous post and use that method. Regards
