RE: 30\" LCD displays: Apple vs. Dell

Jeremy, The truth is that the future of home computing and Internet will al be through your TV with a wireless keyboard hooked up to a TV with all your virtual disc space online with your cable provider. Apple just introduced Apple TV which you can send from your computer to your set anything that can be viewed in iTunes. Most normal people by a computer and a 19" screen so the market for that will stay for a while. Being in post I needed both a big computer monitor and a video monitor. So I thought why not have both. I also have a 30" Fujistu Siemanns which is not as high end as the Phillips but it still looks great, I looked at a lot of LCD TV's. I mean alot. None had the specs like Phillips. They have something called pixel plus which enhances the pixels to decrease tracing and the detail is surperb. I think they now offer pixel plus 3. I have Pixel Plus 2 plus Ambilight which projects the dominant color on the screen on the wall behind the set. Sounds silly but it's amazing. Yes you are right I'm in Europe. In the States I see they are called Flat HDTV but there is no 32" model. Go for it! All the best, Mitch

Mitch, before I kill myself trying to import one of these things -- are you telling me using DVI, you are getting 2560 x 1600 (native) from the DVI-D? Just wanted to be certain. Do you know the exact model number of your display? Thanks!

Do not import one of these things! It runs on 220v and will only receive PAL transmissions. It will playback NTSC and PAL. As far as the DVI you should check out the specs on the LCD you are going to buy. There are plenty of great screens out there. SONY, Sharp, Toshiba. I just fell in love with this one. The point is the functionality of an LCD TV can't be beat. Mitch

There's a reason why a good LCD-only ( like Apple 23'', 30'' ) cost more than the same size LCD-TV combo like some of the model mention here...RESOLUTION. The Apple 23'' runs at true HD format 1920x1080 pixels while, for example the Phillips, only runs at 1366x768. If you you want a good quality LCD-TV 30'' and bigger running at true HD def, it will definitely cost much more. The difference in resolution is quite noticeable, especially if you do graghic and Video editing. I've tried many LCD-TV and never lasted more than a few hours before going back to my LCD only. For Video and graphics, there is no way i can work on a LCD-TV monitor. As for PT editing, i guess a good LCD-TV might work.
