Anybody here uses an EMU0202 with a laptop? Reaper is not working well with my asio4all drivers. I"m getting a 0202 card if it works. How does it work with kontakt? What are your thoughts? Im trying out a friend's tascam USB card and it sucks. so yeah..

I use a 0202, but not for my laptop. I would if I could, but they have no drivers for Windows 2000, so that's something to be aware of...

well how does it work for you? How about latency, number of voices in a sampler, etc., Can you give me some performance numbers please? Host is reaper obviously.

if you can get a tad higher with the price i would suggest either the fast track ultra (64 samples buffer, about 6.8 ms roundtrip latency) which i now use regularly or, from emu, the tracker pre or the 0404 usb. to cite myself from another post on another forum on reply to the 0404usb: "i second that. furthermore, you can get unbelievable low latencies (for usb) with this emu thingy. i checked it once with the CEntrance latency checker tool, when i remember right i got about 5 ms TOTAL roundtrip latency. my m-audio fast track pro has 11.x ms at 128 samples buffer.. even cheaper solution when all you need is two ins/outs: emu usb0202. converters and mic pres not quite as decent as on the 0404, but i suppose still good." cannot personally comment on the 0202 as i never had it, but i used both the tracker pre and 0404usb. very good value for the money. some people have issues with the drivers, especially at really low latencies

I'm happy to tell you how it works on my desktop, but you're probably going to find things pretty different on a laptop. My simplistic understanding of these things suggests that latency is primarily a problem with the processor dealing with calls from all the doo-dads you have hanging off the motherboard. I have loads of those, an old P4 and latency of 11ms (44.1KHz 24bit, no dropouts). I can go less, but I like stability. As long as I don't put ReaVerb on while recording, I can comfortably work with that amount of latency. You can always monitor direct if need be. I've never done the number of voices stress test, but in my case I expect it would be processor limited rather than soundcard limited. I am very happy with my 0202 - it does what it needs to do without noise or aggravation.
