the guitar part in the start and about 50 seconds in is just a little to quiet. i know you were kind of going for a stop break kind of thing there but just a tad more volume. as for everything else its pretty badass. almost kind of a Mesuggah kind of tone.

Good work! I second what Shemp said. Especially about the guitar riff at the end. I like the drumworks! But i'd like to have the snare a little bit more "evil". IMO it's a little bit soft. BTW how did you do the drums? Michael

It's sounding good. Nice guitar work. Great tone. Sounds huge. I'm interested in hearing the updated drum mix.

The snare could use a bit of ring / distortion for a meaner beat, but other than that, it sounds good donde esta el vocals? :D

ScalerWave: I'm not sure if I'll redo the drums on this one -- at least at the moment. I've committed myself to trying to complete one song per month, which doesn't leave much time for remixes. At this point, I'm trying to collect advice to apply to the next tune (and maybe add back to this one later). StepOne: Yes, this was meant to have vox, but as with the drums above, I'll probably add those later. If I can stick with my one-track-a-month goal, I may spend the last month of the year adding vox to all the previous tracks. ;-) Thanks for the comments! Any other thoughts or suggestions?

Sounds good to me. Great time and rhythm playing as well. I go along with the previous comments about the snare, but overall the drums sound good. The drum progamming is excellent. What were you using for the guitar sound? Are you still using Line 6 sounds? From the name of the track, I thought you might be using the Line 6 Chemical X sound, but it doesn’t sound as good as your track. How do you get such a precisely tight overdriven sound? Is it gated in some way? I can get tight funky clean rhythms and punchy overdriven sounds using a combination of left and right hand muting, but I can’t seem to get distorted rhythm tones to sound exactly like your track using guitar technique alone. One minor point, I can hear what sounds like an open 2nd string ringing from 53s, 1:48s and 3:33s; except it’s a Bb, so my comment only makes sense if you’ve tuned down a semitone. Pete

Hey jalan! I like that tune a lot. Nice groove, makes my head move. Good guitar tones. I would mix the main guitars more agressive but it works cool that way, too. They are definitely fat, the rest is just taste. ;) What did you use for the guitars? Which guitars, amps, plugins, etc.? Bass is cool, too. What did you use for bass? I like the drums. Same remark for the snare here, could be more aggressive, snappy. Did you "play" those drums or did you program them? Premade patterns? Like that stuff. Oh, the low guitars in that mentioned breaks are too low for me, too. Shogger

RE: Chemical Rock - How's the tone?

Hey, guys. Just getting back online after the weekend. Thanks for the comments... Stratman: Yes, I'm still using Line 6 Gerabox for guitar and bass, with ReaEQ as a post EQ. The amp model for the guitar was "Criminal", not sure about the bass offhand (it was a blend of direct and amp). I don't do any special gating, I just use the one in GB, though I did turn it up a bit this time. Beyond that, the guitar tracks are very dry and the mic is right on the cab (virtually speaking) And yes, I'm tuned down to Bb and there is a background guitar playing and open string. Shogger: See above for guitar/bass. It's really a very basic setup. The drums were a mish-mash of programmed beats, pre-written MIDI patterms and even some Jamstix embellishments. To be honest, I spend as much time programming the drums as I do pretty much everything else combined. I really think the drum performance can make a HUGE difference in the overall track.
