Recording Plugins to a bounce file.

Hi guys, I know this might be a simple question. Id love your help. Setup I have is: Pro Tools LE with 002 R. Plugin is BFD Drums. What Id like to do is to be able to record the BFD plug in into my song when I bounce to disk. I have done the following: - Created an Audio track, and inserted the plugin BFD plugin. - Created a Midi track, and put the output as the BFD plugin. When I Record Enable BOTH tracks (the Audio and Midi for the BFD), it records midi data on the midi track, but nothing on the audio track. If I Record Enable just the Midi track, I see that in the mix window, output is going to both tracks. How can I get the recorded midi track to be recorded (heard) on the bounce to disk file if it is only recording midi data? Im sure I am missing something. Im new to plugin recording. I have been able to record midi tracks with midi instruments that are connected up to a 002R as the midi data has an associated AUDIO track which gets bounced down, but Im not sure how to record audio for recording plugins. Any help greatly appreciated. Simon

RE: Recording Plugins to a bounce file.

This is quite simple - but hard to figure out from the manual. There are 2 options. 1- Just Bounce to Disk and an audio file will be created of the selected midi region which can be dragged back into edit window playlist 2- The PT way is: a) insert BFD on an AUX track and set the output to Bus 1-2. Turn up the fader b) Set up an Audio track and assign the input to Bus 1-2. Rec enable this track c) the Midi track out should be BFD d) Hit record The reason for this is that Inserts are Post the Recording Bus so are monitored but are too late in the chain to be recorded. By setting them on an Aux first, the signal will get recorded since it is now earlier in the chain before the record bus.

RE: Recording Plugins to a bounce file.

Use an AUX track for the BFD plugin. As Cliffy states, the inserts are 'post recorder', so they don't get recorded on an audio track anyway. Don't waste an audio track. The Bounce TO Disk command will bounce all the sources which are routed to the selected output (usually 1 - 2), so you don't need to go to the other steps just to 'render' it to an audio track first. Bounce To Disk will include output from your AUX channels, whether it's output from a plugin or signal from an external source, such as a HW MIDI modules, or FX box. If, for some reason, such as reducing CPU load, you do wish to render the BFD output to an audio track, you can use the steps Cliffy described.
