RE: Reaper slowing down... then speeding up...

Hello. For my first post... Reaper slows down when playing a few (say 5+) audio tracks. Q. Is there some way to stop this? Like some sort of buffer? The sound does not break up. Latency is really good. I am not sure what the problem here is. If I mute tracks the tempo picks up, if I un mute, the tempo drops... Tracks are just audio takes. no midi nor VSTi's, minimal lugins. But hey... everything else seems great so far :) I am recording drum tracks( yamaha RXS Drum machine) and live keys (Yamaha CS01) and some very dodgy singing... Rob. Oh, I am using a compaq armada e500 laptop (700mhz 256 ram). Sure it's old but it's been good to me so far. Influences: The crystal method, Public enemy, New Order, Bailter space, Big black, etc etc etc

RE: Reaper slowing down... then speeding up...

Welcome to the forums! :) I wish I could help you but this is one the weirdest issues I've heard of so far. I can only assume that the old Compaq does something really weird maybe in conjunction with SpeedStep and the audio card (which one?) since it seems to be depending on CPU load. Try to turn off SpeedStep/Power Saving or similar options to make the CPU run at a constant clock rate. What OS are you using?

that's an very low-powered pc there - just booting xp on a 256mb ram system is a nightmare, let alone doing anything useful. i'd say it's maxing out *somewhere* maybe try sticking some more ram in it?

RE: Reaper slowing down... then speeding up...

hi. I have disabled speed step in bios and set power to desktop profile. Nothing seems to have changed too much. File open faster though... must be time to retire the compaq... In say that I am very pleased with the way things are going so far. cheers for the help! Rob. Am putting up a bit of a tune on myspace Cheers
