On the Logic user group, one of emagics people (can't remember if it was Marcus Fritze or Michael Hayden) did hint that they were "considering creating a Pro Tools profile" for the Logic control. It will sell on the street for about $ 999 BTW. I want one to use with Logic 5 and HOPEFULLY PTLE.
Brad, We could argue this one til the cows come home, but it would be pure speculation on both of our parts. The only thing that emagic's own (Marcus or Michael) mentioned on the LUG was that they were considering a PRO TOOLS profile, and said nothing about any other software. Since so many people use TDM, 001s, and other digi hardware as a front end for Logic, I do think its a slightly different situation than just opening the thing up to be used with all DAW software. Ultimately if they sell a lot of Logic controls by broadening its appeal with a development partners product (and not direct competitor), they make a pile of money too. I am sure they're weighing these issues carefully, and who knows what they'll do. I can dream... And I'll probably be getting one along with the requisite upgrade to Logic 5 once it ships EVEN if they don't include a Pro Tools profile.

Of couuse, the interesting thing is that I would probably buy a copy of Logic too, if the Logic Controller would be allowed to work with PTLE as well. I guess the best we can do is keep our fingers crossed. NP
with no currently properly working controller surface which will work with both logic and pro tools either emagic/mackie providing a pro tools mode or cmlabs sorting out the software for the motormix to work with both would be nice. The Logic surface wins hands down on hardware (penny and giles/ edit functions and editing/software synth controls as standard) There seems to be a gap in the market for a controller surface which can be configured to work with logic, pro tools, and be programmed to be used with software synths/samplers in both environments as well as stand alone apps. Some very nice hardware is appearing, but the end user needs total flexibility to be able to get the most from a MIDI controller
...there seems to be a conflict of interests in software companies getting involved in the design/distribution of controller surfaces and the end user ends up losing out due to marketing concerns of the companies concerned. having bought the motormix , I find it very frustrating to have a very well designed control surface, without the flexability to program it to do anything beyond control of pro tools. The hardware is there to do all i need it to but the software is not flexible. I hope the makers of the Logic Control or any other maufacturer who aims to give customers value for money, learn from this and integrate full programmabity into a control surface , so the end user does then not have to think about buying other MIDI hardware controllers for the badly needed control of software or trading their set up in for a more flexible one.
i was told be a Mackiod at NAMM that they had an agreement with Logic that they would not sell the control surface to use with any other DAW for a period of time. I think he said six months. After this time, Mackie could sell the control panel to be used with any other workstation.
