Didn't someone post up on the legality or otherwise of these, on here? Can't seem to find it. Seem to remember something about a certification, maybe a certain process? Trying to find out if the are legal, for one thing. And beyond that what's possible and pricing. Someone mentioned a company on here but they don't do wheel banding, they did one set as a one-off only or something.
nobody ever seems to get a definitive answer as to whether they are legal or not. Loads of stuff about banded steels over on retro-rides. have a look at this thread for example...
Exactly, lots of people are 'sure' they're illegal but can never quote why, or a law etc. I saw a post, thought it was on here, that was quite detailed about banding and about certs and processes the bander must have. Either it was pulled or it was somewhere else. If pulled then the info was probably duff. People do offer banding though, so presumably it is legal. And the P.Classics Merc V8 has banded steels. Although he araldited air leaks! :speechless-smiley-1
Proper 1 piece rim 5 1/2" or 6" x 15 wheels are available in Holland or Sweden. I'd be surprised if Brookhouse or Amazon Cars can't get a set. Maybe not a stock item but available to order possibly.
Here is a Dutch site that offers them for €125 a piece 15x7" and 15x6" and also available in chrome. It's in Dutch but I think the pics speak for themself. PS: next weekend, 27+28 october there is the anual volvo classic fair in Utrecht, right in the middle of Holland. If you guys are looking for a hard to get article for your classic Volvo this is the place to be. It's the biggest Volvo fair of the world with sellers and buyers from Sweden, Holland, Germany, England. The seller of the above mentioned rims will be there also. If you give him a ring he can take those rims with him and he is offering a 10% discount at the fair.

B20F, that's a fantastic link. Can I pass the information on over on Retro - Rides? My grasp of Dutch being **** poor, does it mention that they band the standard Amazon steel wheel for the same price? The wheels advertised for 125 Euros look like the later 140 type. I'd be able to get these quite cheap as I have a friend who lives in Amsterdam. The problem then arises that I'd have to go to Amsterdam (:)) but I'd then have to speak to him. Poo. Great link nonetheless.
Hi I have ben looking into this and found this company who are doing banded wheels. I wouldn't consider this sort of thing normally but they seem to be doing it properly and are looking into getting them certified. Hope they can as I might have a set for my 940.
--------------------- From Codeman in the picture rating thread:
@jakobandhismakarov; you can order on demand which type of rim you want. I guess if your friend can delivere them to him the price would be cheaper. I dealt with this guy, Dries, and he is a very nice and reliable guy. And speaks English, so you can Email him or give him a call. The phone#(add 0031 and leave the first 0) and Email adress are on the home page. And of course you can pass the link on to retro rides

Good info. Not sure how much of a general prob it is but the guy on Retro Rides who has bandeds seems to have been told they sometimes leak and that's how it is... but aralditing them... o dear! P'raps something to watch out for anyway. Can't see why someone who's supposed to be abe to weld (RR guy) can't dunk them in water, or use pounce powder, to reveal and seal up leaks. Those Dutch wheels look very foxy...
