RE: To DXi or VSTi?

Really old DX plugins may not support all features of their VST siblings, DX plugins are often said (and sometimes also proven) to be more wonky than the VST versions of the same plugin, besides that there's no difference AFAIK.

RE: To DXi or VSTi?

i dont think one can be rigorous bout dx versus vst. i'm useing some dx plug ins here i still like from my old daw before reaper , n not only (thanks to reapers dx implementation) do i never get a problem.. but i'm getting no latency and very low cpu useage. i like to sometimes use em with reaps own plug ins,.

RE: To DXi or VSTi?

I ask because I'm lazy! Here's the story: I had a couple different DAW's on my laptop and when I loaded Guitar Rig the VSTi went into a folder that was part of the DAW. I removed the DAW and lost the VSTi. The DXi version is still there and working for Reaper. I guess I just need a fresh install of Guitar Rig. Appreciate everyone's comments!

RE: To DXi or VSTi?

You just need to "repair" the GR install. I think that the NI installer has that option. So, rerun the install, and if you can find Repair option, use it. It will reinstall all the missing parts of the program. Note: sometimes "Repair" can be found in an uninstaller.

It's unusual in my experience, but I did find a bug in MusicLab's RealGuitar VSTi that isn't in the DXi. I reported it on this forum and here: -Susan

RE: To DXi or VSTi?

Here's another hint.... Put all your VSTs in a root-level folder (instead of various application folders) like C:/VSTS and then point all of your applications at the common folder. You wont lose any when you uninstall a program. Programs like Cubase that have proprietary vsts that wont work on any other sequencer will have their own vst folders and you wont get them in other apps like Reaper, causing confusion. Finally, if you ever set up ReaMote pc's on your home network for distributed fx processing, you can simply copy the whole C:/VSTS folder to each machine and keep them synchronized with a utility like the free PathSync. Makes it REAL easy....
