IM BUYING A MIX PLUS SYSTEM WITH 888/24 AND 1622 AND UPGRADING FROM A DIGI002 WITH G4 1GHZ W/1.5GIG RAM. WILL I GET MORE PLUGIN POWER? WILL I GET A WORST SOUND QUALITY WITH THE OLD MIX INTERFACES? DO YOU THINK IT WOULD BE WORTH IT? OR WOULD A G5 DAUL 2.0 WITH DIGI002 BE BETTER THAN THE MIX PLUS?

even though i own an accel system...i work on mix systems all the time in differnt studios..it is still a good system..it depends on the purpose and the need for newer plugins..most of the studios i work on mix systems with are in advertising. and they are very happy with them.

RE: HOW MANY PEOPLE STILL USE A MIX SYSTEM?

The main (potential) limitation of an LE system (vs MIX) for music seems (to me) to be track-count. If I didn't need more tracks I'd probably have gone with a 002r. Only now with a Mix+++ do I feel I have the power that is close to a G5. The big question-mark for someone in your position is probably "what will be in PT v7.x?". I'm happy with MIX because I like the extra tracks and I love working in ProTools, but for me track-count was the main deal-breaker. A theoretical "003r" with dedicated onboard processing just to deal with ADC and 64+ tracks native for ~3k would be a devastating piece of hardware IMO. Perhaps so devastating it would crush HD, but that was the missing product I was looking for when I decided to go Legacy. Hope that is helpful, - proxy

Still on Mix, which gets the job done, although if I had the cash, I would prefer the higher sampler rate of HD. Since I can't justify the expense, Mix will do for now. And yes, LOSE THE CAPS LOCK, it is considered rude.

We're still on MIXPlus w/DSP Farm. I was contemplating moving to HD to get the fixes/features in v6.9, but I'm in post. Why is that a problem? Because Digidesign expects me to pay for a MOJO (which I wouldn't use) AND Media Station

Actually, I have had most versions of TDM, and I think the Mix system is still great! Mind you, I also have an HD system, but sometimes I actually PREFER a "dead" system that doesn't change features every 6 months! Many great recordings can be, and have been made using these systems. Ignore the cutting edge - remember that the "Mix" system has 90% of everything you might need (like, record and playback). Great as a front end to a sequencer, also. If, however, you NEED the latest features, then find a path to HD. Your curiosity will be satisfied, but your bank account won't be.

Buying a MIX system is like buying an old car .... you can still drive it around but eventually you're going to REALLY want a new car! You may even be forced to buy a new car at some point. I have a new car .... and I really like it! Whenever I get into an old car I just don't like it as much as my new one and I would never go back. And yes it will cost you more! That's just the way it is.
