OK, the automation lanes rock. And it is so easy to get a track or VST parameter envelope set up that even I can do it. However, is there a way to assign a MIDI Controller message (for example Mod Wheel) to an automation lane. I know how to manipulate them in the MIDI Editor, but it would be really cool to have them on the main screen.

Two ways: 1) Open your plugin, click the parameter you want to map to MIDI, click Param -> Learn, move the control on your MIDI controller. 2) Click your envelope button, click "Learn" on the parameter you want to control, move the control on your MIDI controller. :D *edit* Dang! Beat me to it ;)

Yes, it makes sense. But, no, it's not possible. [EDIT: Yes, it is - see Broman's post below.] This plugin (which one is it, by the way?) has a parameter which is controlled by directly by CC01 messages, but does not appear in the list of VSTi parameters. Have I got that right? If so, then it it cannot be controlled from a VSTi parameter envelope, only by MIDI CC-01 messages, either from a MIDI Clip or from your keyboard (with the track Armed for Recording). Would it be any use to use the Inline MIDI Editor for the MIDI Clips, or two have two MIDI Clips on the track (in Free Item Positioning Mode) - one for the MIDI notes and one for MIDI CC-01)? PS: Automation lanes for MIDI CC messages have been requested.

Right-click the track, select "show midi track control". Under "control change", click enable, select Mod Wheel from the dropdown. Fiddle with the slider a bit, click param at the top, click "show track envelope". ;)
