On my 'new' second wagon, which hasn't been used much for some years, there's an indicator prob: the stalk has to be held either up or down, else it flicks back to centre. Also when doing trying to indicate, the indicators are on "solid", they don't flash on/off. Reading another post it looks like the stalk part could be a spring? What does the panel think? Re the not-flashing bit, is there a flasher relay? Have had a nose around and haven't spotted one yet... Cheers, Bill
There are two little L-shaped catchy things with springs attached on the indicator switch which hold it up or down until the rotation of the steering wheel knocks them out and allows the stalk to spring back to centre. If these are stiff or the springs are missing they will stay knocked out and there is nothing to hold the stalk up or down. As I remember it they're fairly easy to get at and it was enough to spray WD40 on them and wiggle them about a bit.
Oh yeah, and the flasher unit is hiding under the dash somewhere behind the speedo, so if your "nose around" was only under the bonnet you'll not have spotted it :) Amazingly Half-rods have suitable replacements (though they don't have ordinary relays, which horrified me).
The full-on business may also be a wiring problem, since you should be able to manually make them blink. I have occasionally had a similar problem where I go to indicate, the indicator lamp goes full on and I notice that the amp light also goes on. This usually goes away by itself after a few minutes. Just to add, a bit of lube sorted the stalk not-staying-put business, and the relay seems to be tired so off to find a new one now, thanks for the help, cheers Bill
i dont know whether this stands for volvos, but check the grounds for the indicators if a new relay doesnt fix it, in my kombi the grounding for the rear taillights would come loose causing the indicator to get stuck on with no blinking.
