ISA 428 Pro\'s /Con\'s

MessageAuthor

I have been looking to buy a AD converter for my studio. I checked the best converters for under 1000 and the ones for over 1000 in the best desktops for PTLE thread. I saw the ISA 428 and saw that it had the AD conversion card option I figured I could kill two birds with one stone because of the preamps in it Does anyone use this piece how are the preamps and the AD conversion? niros

Very nice unit. I highly recommend it! Especially if you can get the A/D card.

How do you connect the digital card to to the 002r. I assume it's throught the lightpipe on the 002r and the digital card for the ISA 428. I've reat threads that using an external clock may in some cases degrade the sound quality, does the ISA send the clock signal throught the lightpipe or what. Will I have problems like this. niros

well if u have the ISA set up as the external clock and you are using the ISA then you won't be degrading the quality, but if you run let's say a spdif converter and sync them with a coaxial cable and still have the ISA as the master but this time you are recording with the Converters that are hooked up with SPDIF then it will be slightly degraded because those 2 clocks all though they are "Sync'd" they will never be 100% perfect with each other
