hey there. i am running a copy of tobybear's MINIHOST (a vst host) running a copy of energyXT set to control my midicontroller with midi vsts. this is good. however, i have to start it every time! same with reaper. for my daw, these are two apps that i want to load automatically every time i hit the power button. Reaper is, after all, an extension of my sound card. i have a default project routed in it so that it plays my turntable, wavosaur, mpc, and all other instruments right off the bat. close reaper, and the routing is gone - none of these items play. i set Minihost and Reaper into my startup folder, and rebooted my DAW. beautiful - the programs loaded automatically when windows loaded (nLITE DUX-XPSP3). unfortunately, they loaded before my drivers for my midi controllers loaded. so my radium49 and my m-audio uno 1x1 did not appear. is there any way i can change the order of the startup so that these midi controller drivers load BEFORE minihost and reaper?

RE: windows question: how to control/observe order of startup applications?

It's a little bit strange that the driver haven't yet been loaded when the programs in startup folder start. Usually first the drivers are startet. Some of the programs and Windows Services are started by items in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Run) Then the autostart folder programs follow. But okay. Windows has an inbuilt tool called Windows Task Scheduler. You'll find it in Control Panel -> Scheduled Tasks There is a wizard which will guide you through the main parameters. After having finished the configuration you can add additional configurations like a time delay.

If they are appliactions, you can put shortcuts in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and they will run everytime you boot up... Fallo

Here's a neat little Visual Basic script that'll do what you need. Code:

Hi, Yeah Bogi, that looks interesting! For you nym this could also be handy: look at . EDIT: I just noticed, that it only seems to handle started progs that show up in the taskbar, but windows starts a lot more processes, you can only access via administration, so Bogis post is probably of more help for you. But worth trying anyway. -Data

Similar to another poster's answer but easier.Drag and drop a shortcut of the programs you want to launch into your Startup folder in your programs list. HTH :)

nym, That VB script will be great for what you want to do. You can set the 'delay' times and add the programs you want. VB is *cool*! :D
