Hey this is my first post, so I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Joe Frost I am in a black metal band recording at the moment in a studio. I want to learn how to record myself, in turn why I am here. I own Pro Tools LE with Mbox 2 Mini. I would prefer to start learning how to use reaper, if anyone knows of any online resources I could read to get some help on anything and everything about Reaper that would be great if they could post a link please. I also am going to ask you guys if you could tell me what I need and what are cheaper to buy, since I don't have a whole lot of money at th moment (I'm 17). Monitors - I have decent enough monitors. Sound card - ? Mics - ? Headphones - ? Eveything else - ? I will be recording more of a black metal side to things, but I will also be recording acoustics, clean guitars, clean vocals (but mostly raspy ones). Thanks to who reply!
The equipment list for these sessions was pretty modest Earlier stuff on a firepod, later stuff with a motu 8 pre and behringer ada8k Just El-Cheapo mics for the most part. a few D-112's and Beta 52's when I could spare them. Most audix mic kits that can be found used for 150 dollars A 25 dollar DI box, whichever monitors GC had on sale The most important piece of gear you can own at this point is a soldering iron Learn how to use it and create whatever cabling and routing situation you need to accomplish your tasks
Hello and welcome to the Reaper Forums! For soundcards, I'd suggest the m-audio cards, the price performance ratio is pretty good (I owned the Delta Audiophile for many years and it worked great, I changed now to the Delta 1010 which is also great). It pretty much depends on how many in- and outputs you want to have, though. And keep in mind that your equipment will by trend become more, so you should keep maybe 2 in and outputs that you don't need rightnow rather than buying a new soundcard next year. Some of the m-audio cards are even cascadable, you should consider that before buying a card! Hope that helped a little bit! enjoy your stay kons
Okay, awesome thanks for the help I am getting that sound card for Christmas, would get it sooner but all my money is going towards Christmas presents. What else should I pick up?
A D.I. And if you can afford it, an easy way to control your monitoring. Synathaxe's SUZY is cool or Mackie Big Knob or my favorite: presonus centralstation, depending on how much moola you got to burn
