I've recently read about this freeware program and I have a questions about it. Does this player runs mpeg 4 advance profile encoded videos? Is the quality any good? Does it also decode aac files that is contained in the mpeg 4 container? Thx

Yes, Envivio player is able to play advanced profile (b-frame, GMC, Qpel) and it's full ISMA compliant (0 and 1), so it's able to play MPEG-4 AAC encoded content. I don't use AVI but ISO MPEG-4 format (.mp4), XviD for video, Psytel for Audio, MPEGIP for mp4 stream and Envivio for reproduction and I've no problem, also with the last version of Xvid....... @Funman: All you said works for me, too. Just 5.1 AAC sound (would be nice for concert DVD) isn't played. After testing nearly every kind of player and DSFilter for playback of MP4 streams I doubt that I will find one that works. Did this work for you? tiki4
@tiki4 Envivio current version (1.2) doesn't play AAC 5.1! As you can easily see in the Envivio board is said that the next relase will support multichannel AAC. At the moment I don't know any mp4 player capable of play aac5.1 FunMan
Thanks Funman, I never visited the Envivio boards myself (was just playing around), but this is indeed interesting news. I'm looking forward to that release. It would be nice to have a standard compliant format that can hold 6 channel audio and can also be played. For now I use OGM+AC3 which is of course no standard whatsoever and I played a little with WMA9Pro. However MP4 with AAC 5.1 would be a nice tool. tiki4
hmm its odd, I've tried envivoTV and gotten strange problems (no audio, slow video, weird stuff) although I've been using the dicas filter with perfect results. Unfortunately it looks like envivo is alot more advanced in its support than dicas. Oh well, maybe next release :/

@RadicalEd About the "strange" problems you say: - "no audio". One of the most common problems. Probably you use a "previous" Psytel 2.15 version. The correct version to use is the 2.15 build 09 April (and next versions) that generates an ISO MPEG-4 AAC stream instead of MPEG-2 AAC one. The raw data is the same, the tecnology is AAC, but headers are different...... According to ISO only it's possible to play only MPEG-4 AAC in mp4, not MPEG-2 AAC. Some decoder, such as Quicktime 6 and dicas (I think) are able to play also MPEG-2 AAC but it's not right....... Anyway I don't like dicas......dicas player v1.7 had very bad synchro video/audio problems when you use the progress bar.......... - "slow video". I think this is about XviD or in general MPEG-4 Video Encoder. For example I found this problem using "packed b-frame" in XviD. Usually I use in my encodes XviD with b-frame and fourCC set to "DX50" so when I use MPEGIP (precisely the visual tools derived from it, mp4UI) I've no problem with video/audio synchronization.... I hope I helped you..... bye FunMan
