No time to check out the links, but in most cases when people report DAWs sounding different (aside from obvious culprits like Ableton's long broken PDC), it comes down to something like different default pan laws.

RE: A comparison of a track rendered in reaper and cubase

I did a quick test of ITB MIDI precision, Reaper is set to the standard 960PPQ here - the same as Cubase's maximum IIRC - and I drew a random bunch of 1/128th notes that seem, on closer inspection, to have formed a pattern.... ... Note the perfect nulling of the two renders (no output in the folder track (or with an analyzer plugin, if inserted)), which means they are identical. The VSTi used was Battery 4. An interesting note is that in VST(i)s and DAWs you can have free-running (they don't reset from the exact same values at the same position on the timeline) LFOs, oscillators etc and also the odd humanizing or other randomizing features tucked away mostly out of sight. So we do need to pick the correct setup to check for things like MIDI precision. @MikComposer: I diagnose you with Extreme Psychoacoustic Distraction Syndrome, brought on by over exposure to New DAW Smell. It's a common affliction that will pass with time. :)

I listened to them. I think they sound identical. I hope you don't let this drive you too close to insane. Much bigger and more important things to worry about.

No need for a crack. I'll pitch in $5 if he'll just buy the damn thing already and go moan over there instead.

It's not a real test since we don't know the input and conditions. It's just 2 different wave files each one from different DAW, you can't compare them.
