Is there enough room in the wheel well on a V70 to have a normal size spare? Off down to Italy and would prefer a proper spare rather than a skinny one. Ta Gary
Hi Gary If you remove the underfloor storage tray and the 3 bits of foam stuck to the floor to support the silly space-saver tyre you can get a full sized spare in. BUT... Volvo say you can't have a full size spare with 17" wheels. I've got Metis 16" wheels (215/55 R16) and the spare fits no problem - they're the wheels they used to supply as standard for plod when the new shape V70 was launched. Hope thats of some help Chris PS - Have got 3 spare Metis w/ half worn Michelin Pilots in the garage - up for sale (cheap - I need the space!!) if they happen to match and you want one!

Chris, Thanks for that and the offer of the wheels. Unfortunately, I do have 17" wheels so I guess I'll just have to take the spacesaver and keep fingers crossed. Gary

I have 17" wheels with 225 tyres in my V70 and a full size spare fits fine if you remove the bits of foam. It will take a bit of wiggling to get it in/out but it fits once it's in. You won't be able to use the plastic tray that normally sits on top however.

Sorry for resurrecting this thread. I've picked up a set of five Orestes wheels which gives me a full size spare.:Dancing_chief: I think I can squeeze one in the well to replace the elastic band space saver but obviously I'll loose the use of the tray.:Not_Impressed: My question is, is there an alternative tray, either Volvo spec. or has anyone found anything else of use ? My tray is currenly full of all sorts of bits and pieces I like to carry around (jump leads, bungie straps, hi-viz vests, etc) and don't like the thought of just bunging them into the space without some form of containment. If all else fails, I guess I'll just have to bag it all up and jam it into whatever space I can find but it goes against my sense of order and tidiness.:nerd:

Hi, I got a 2003 ex-plod V70 and it got a 17" spare with michelin tyre and it fits in fine and the plastic tray fits on top no problem, mind you there is no jack or brace in there.

Is your tray shallower than standard, then? I have now got a full size spare, and the tray will not fit as it is a lot deeper on one side of the other and fouls the wheel. Gary

I always carry a can of that tyre repair stuff for emergencies as I'd rather limp home with a full sized wheel full of gunk than use the space saver if I can help it. It only costs a few quid and lets you get to a tyre fitter in the same way as a space saver does. Also, after having to change a wheel on the hard shoulder in torrential rain one night a few years ago - I vowed never to do it again :) Dave

Thanks. The 'standard' tray with the skinny spare is an inch or two deep on the left, and 4 inches or so on the right. I will be in europe for a month on holiday and will carrying a full size alloy and will, if needed, do without the tray. There must be a shallower tray if yours fits ok. Gary
