When I launch REAPER and it starts to open the last project I was working on, it takes about 25 seconds to finish loading just a couple plug-ins. The splash screen says: "Project: loading effect: VST: D82 Sonic Maximizer" for about 12 seconds, and then "Project: loading effect: VST: ReaComp" for another 8 seconds or so. Both of these plug-ins are just single .dll files. Strangely, the other plug-ins I'm using in this project, including EZdrummer and POD Farm, don't appear cause any delay. Any ideas as to what could be happening? It's really annoying to have to wait 25 seconds every time I open up a project. I've tried centralizing all my plug-ins in a single folder, but it doesn't seem to help.

Most likely, the splash screen is just updating before the previous plugin loads. You mention that Sonic Maximizer takes the longest, the plugin loaded immediately before it is DFH which is probably loading a bunch of samples. Likewise ReaComp, the one before it is POD Farm which needs to talk to its dongle and what not.

Ah, that makes sense. So you think that the relatively long load time is unavoidable as long as I'm using these plug-ins? Thanks a lot for the quick feedback!

Helps to set sample storing instruments off line. Just CTRL+Left-Click on the item's check box in the FX list. Regard, DB
