Is there a way to continue hearing the original data on a track while punching in? The original data always mutes when I go into record mode, which I'll usually do a few moments before I the actual punch-in point. My present work-around is to create a temp track and recording on that. I then slice the area in question on the original track and then slide the new data into the "hole". While I'm at it, once I've committed a session, how do you purge a project of earlier, unwanted takes? Any help with this is appreciated, thanks.

Which record mode do you use for recording? Record mode: Normal Record mode: Time Selection Auto-Punch Record mode: Auto-Punch Selected Items Which one of those?

Yeah.... For punching in... Rt Click on the record button and choose "time selection auto punch", highlight the section you want to punch by dragging (highlighting) in the timeline... put the playback cursor wherever you want (ahead of the punch) and hit record... Thats it. To get rid of alt takes and other stuff, use FILE>"Clean current project directory" -Jake

And you might want to check 'Monitor track media when recourding' in the track's record options.
