I am afraid I think I would update each shot . . . (hears groan all way from other side of planet) . . . but I would organise an angry mob to do it section by section. I think the idea to go default theme on each screenshot is a good one. Sometimes if you are tired or stressed, or just a simple plodder like me, and you are trying to work something out you just want the guide to look exactly like what you have on the screen. The default theme will do that for you with a couple of clicks, even if you don't usually use it. With that in mind I suspect that WT's involvement would be even more welcome than usual.

I'd prefer updated screenshots. If it was me, either i could get the updated screenshots through collaborative work with reaperites, or i simply wouldn't do them. If it's compatible with your workflow, maybe it could be done like this : - start a thread about updating screenshots, with in the first post all necessary info like format, naming conventions etc... saying "we're at page 1" - when a volunteer feels like it, he/she makes a post saying 'i'm working on page 1 to page X'. when work is done, he/she edit his post with the link to the zip file - update first post, "we're at page x" and so on... progressing linearly from first page to last. My point is, while i'll be happy to help on this, i wouldn't want having to plan in advance to reserve the time for this. So some sort a kind of a "slack" organization like this would fit me best. That way if i have only half an hour to work, i can do, say, 5 pages only. And come back few days later, when it's the right time for me, to do some more. my 2cents :)

Nicolas, As someone who has also written manuals, I understand what a task it is. You have done an INCREDIBLE job. Still, regardless of the sweat it may break, I believe for clear explanations ALL screenshots NEED to be from the new version 3 (WIP of course). Like White Tie and others have said and offered, I too can help...let me know man.

To support your impressive work i'd like to offer my help redoing the screenshots. Just post the specs how you need them.

OT, but I thought I should mention that this is the third time I was tricked into this thread thinking the user guide was already updated! I mean, from the REAPER Forums-page it says: "REAPER 3 User Guide Update..." ie no mention of the Dilemma;) anyway, really appreciating the massive enormous work you've been doing, worth every krona! of course I'll be up for contributing with pictures - but only if my name is on the corner of the screencap;)

Hi nicholas- Do you paste screenshots into your document or use linked images? I didn't even think to ask what WP you use, which would of course make a difference! ;) In my Documentation/Help Authoring days it saved a lot of time if the images were linked so we could just replace them with the latest screenshots. I'm also more than happy to send you some screenshots for the new version, if that would help. P.S. I wish I could offer more right now, but I've been laid up for my 3 days off, and apparently my brain isn't ready to get back in the swing of things yet. :( -Susan

Please tell me to mind my own business if I am too bold but I see many generous offers of help but I can't help thinking there is a point where they become helpful but we don't know where it is. To stretch my point, if all the kind helpers would do only six screen caps each it would prolly be more trouble to organise than for Nicholas to do the shots himself. Obviously if someone were to offer to do three hundred shots it would be a great help, but it might not happen ;) Shogger has offered to do three dozen, Chris P C, has offered to do a section, maybe this will save Nicholas a lot of time and may it will only save a little, we don't really know. So what I think, and it's none of my business but I'll say it anyway, is that what would really help in a big way is if someone with supreme organisational abilities could be delegated to liaise and collate, and report back to Nicholas the amount of help he could get and take the burden of organising it for him. Hopefully Nicholas could then concentrate on the written stuff and screen caps would be delivered on time without him having to spend a lot of time corresponding to the many keen and willing volunteers. Just a thought? PS. Ed209, I will also put my name forward, but only if my photo is on the front cover - second thoughts.....nah, you wouldn't like that at all :D
