I had to do a similar fix on my iLok. I had it plugged in the a USB port on the keyboard. The keyboard fell on the floor and sheared off the iLok. Not pretty. Soldering on a 4" USB cable tail was easy though, and then I encased the soldered connection of the iLok and USB tail in epoxy for stability. Works fine now, no problems.

yes, the epoxy is next. ilok should make these into sturdy short cable dongles, instead of offering the afterthought usb buddy as they have.
