Huge Output size?

Ok, I'm using the default bitrate settings and a moderator's settings that where posted here at this forum for converting DVD compliant Mpeg2 files.720x480. My encoder is CCE 2.5 and configured in DVD2SVCD per the setup guide here. I was testing this all out with a movie that was 108 minutes in length and tried one pass VBR, which produced a size expected. Under 2g. Worked perfectly. Now this second movie I'm trying says it's only 100 minutes and I set CCE in D2S for 4 pass VBR. This time around on this other movie the output size is going to be 5+gigs??? Why would a movie that is shorter in Length double in size from switching to 4pass VBR? How can I force the size to be smaller? I'm trying to backup some of my dvd's 2 per dvd-r and wanted to backup my extended edition LOTR "2 disc set" to one dvd-r. Thanks.

RE: Huge Output size?

I'm wondering... when you say "the output size is going to be 5+gigs" how did you decide that? Are you perhaps looking at the screen output of CCE as it is encoding? If so, note that the filesize will be much larger when more passes are used, simply because each pass goes over the film another time. I'm not sure how to say it properly, so that you will fully understand, but let me leave it at this: If you're seeing that 5gb figure from the CCE encoding window, you should probably just ignore it. Assuming you've got the Bitrate tab the way you want it in D2S, the output should be as desired, especially with 4-Pass VBR.

Ultimate, Thanks for answering! I am truely sorry for spamming this moronic newbie question around when it turned out I had miscalculated the math in my head. (I blame insomnia) I let the file go while I slept and woke up baffled. Did the % CCE math again and it was obviouly fine. Again, sorry for whining about something so trivial when in the end the program was performing perfectly. To the author, I just have to say this program is godly! Give me your brain.
