Here's drums only mix..I figure 45 views with no replies must mean you can't hear the kick at all:

Unfortunately i can't hear anything. It's just not working. Additionally i'm not the guy to give advices, i'm still the one who asks questions, but... There are some great videos here: You should have a look in ReaFIR_2_rescue.wmv But maybe just putting a compressor to the drums track will be efficient enough.

I'm not real impressed with whatever this embedded music player is. Half the links I click don't play. If you copy that link and paste it into a new browser window it will play (please). I assure you the link is good. thanks for the material, I'll give it a listen/look. I've compressed the fire out of it and still it seems I can only approximate the sound of someone smacking a cardboard box with a stick :(

hmm... i think it doesn't work because it links directly to your homepage. Most of the files which are played with the embedded player are hosted at stashbox.

Dunno. When I click the link(s) it plays in the player as expected. It's a good link, and I ain't signing up for some third party service when I have my own server already. It still doesn't play for you?

Sounds like the bass is really overpowering the kick. It's a fine balance to get these 2 elements to sit well in the mix.

hellifino, it's a sample. I think it sounds bad cause I've roasted it trying to thicken it up. Here's dry sample without any huxinatoration: ~4 meg 16 bit wav which sounds to me to be a reasonable sample of a real kick drum. The sound I'm going for is your standard tightbutthick hard rock kick drum. Think Tool. I should add - I don't want to replace the sample, since it's part of a jamstix kit..I'd rather learn the 'real' way to do this if possible.

is a quick and dirty version with the kick fixed. It's done at work with some crappy earbuds and crappy realtek soundchips, but i hope you get the idea. The .rpp you can find . From ~10s on the solo bassdrum track is different from the bassdrum in the drums only track, so it sounds a little strange.

Track 1 'toms_song_kick': ReaEQ: Band 1: HiPass 79.4Hz, Bandwidth 2oct Band 2: Band, 372.3Hz, Gain -22.5dB, Bandwidth 2oct Band 3: Band, 1234.7Hz, Gain -21.2dB, Bandwidth 2oct Band 4: High Shelf, 1541.7Hz, Gain +24dB (!), Bandwidth 1.86oct Band 5: Band, 112.3Hz, Gain +12.5dB, Bandwidth 3.28oct Gain -3.28dB Track fader @-0.47dB Band 1 to cut muddy lows Band 2&3 to remove cardbox sounding mids Band 4 enhance attack Band 5 enhance punch Track 2 'toms_song_drums_only': ReaEQ: Lowcut @106.5Hz to remove muddy lows Track fader @-13.4dB to bring up the drums a bit Track 3 'toms_song': nothing changed Track fader @-12.3dB No other FX used. Maybe the EQ settings can be chosen less extreme in a new mix (without having to compensate the bassdrum as it is in the original mix).
