I'm considering using a Powerbook G4 with 001. Any feedback on pros and cons? Besides being ultimately portable, it seems the G4 chip and other powerbook attributes would make this a good system, portable or not. Thanks for your input in advance.
you might want to wait until "002", if it exists, is announced. 'cause it may be a firewire, portable solution. for info responsive to your question, search the duc in LE/001.
I put together Ti laptop/magma chassis and Digi001 w/ external glyph scsi cdr. the guy loves it. He's not a pro, though, and does not work the stuff very hard..
ProTools does not take advantage of the benefits that a G4 chip has over a G3. If you're on a budget, you should consider a G3 PowerBook with cardbus slot for the pci expansion chassis.
I've been uusing the G4/400 with the Magma CB2S and 001 for a couple months and it works great. It's not cheap (G4=$2500, Digi=$800, Magma=$1000, SCSI Drive= $500... total= $4800), but until firewire is supported by Digi, it's the only option . Check out the compatibility page on the Magma site (). Matt.
I am purchasing a powerbook. What should I get on the thing-and what should I NOT get on it? More memory? more harddrive space? wireless email? (can I use this for word processing and web browsing? or should I use the book only for recording?) All advice is good THANKS!
