NB: I posted this also in the "General Disscusion" section but no one love me...lol This is for all those who are much more knowledgable than I. I've been looking for an outboard comp/limiter for some time. I am on a super small budget so am only looking at secondhand gear. I may have an opportunity for a good deal on a Focusrite green 6 compressor. Would this be a good addition to my rack. I'm using a 002 and the abiltiy to comp 4 channels independently using hardware would really free up my system to run more plugins. What do you guys and gals think...worth the investment? I'll aso use this to comp my synths and sampler etc.

For a budget compressor the RNC is the way to go. This is the rack mounted one that is a bit more but you can find them cheap and BigbubbaJ swears by them. Higher end would be an 1176 or Distressors. I think that I will get a pair of RNC's to add to my collection though. Good stuff. - Doc

RE: Outboard Compressor...Help!

The Focusrite Green series of stuff has a pretty good reputation and did recieve favorable reviews. I've used the Green 4 dual comp before, and it sounded good. I haven't heard the Green 6, but it being a quad comp in one rack space, I would expect to not have as much control (there is no attack rate knob I think, just a button for fast or normal). I think the Focusrite Green series went away because it was still a little out of reach for project studios, their target market. The Platinum series came out after that. IMO, yes the Green 6 would be worth the investment.

Thanks for all your replies... I've been looking at the RNC too. I've just spent alot of money in the last 2 years on gear and am trying not to go overboard on outboard. I've got a good range of plugins but really need some gear for tracking vocals. I'm going in through a NT2A and a digimax LT but my recordings are crying out for some compression on the way in. Who knows I'll see what my bank balance allows
