In case anyone is interested - I've got a temporary Quicktime video solution to share. It's clumsy, in-elegant, and not a 100% satisfactory solution, but it works well enough for me to do some scoring work with Reaper. I now have Digital Performer running as a slave under Reaper (right where DP belongs!!!) and am using DP's video functionality. It took a long time to get it to work right, but I'm very happy! If I could just figure out my Euphonix problems (in another thread) I can throw away DP for ever! (DP! Thief! We hates it! Forever!) Notes: 1. this solution requires an external MIDI interface with at least with I/O port free. 2. DP will not follow when Reaper is stopped – that is, DP doesn't respond to moving the cursor around in Reaper's timeline. Unless I've missed something... DP will play and stop at the right position only with Reaper's Play and Stop transport controls. I really wish I knew how to make DP respond to moving Reaper's cursor in the timeline. Maybe there needs to be something akin to Cubase's "send sync when stopped" option? 3. If you use a Novation Automap device, you'll need to disable it for DP. It took me an hour to figure out why DP kept crashing when launched at the same time as Reaper was running. Automap doesn't play nice with multiple apps. Drag the Automap AU component out and leave it one level above your user Component folder, in case you need it for something else quickly . Go to: user > Library > Audio > Plugins > Components Here are the steps - hope this will be useful for others: Insert a "SMPTE LTC/MTC Timecode Generator" in a track, and extend the length you need. Set it for MTC (right-click > source properties) In Preferences > MIDI Devices, enable the free MIDI port and set Reaper to transmit MTC/SPP to that port Set the track with the Timecode Generator to output to that MIDI port you just enabled. In Audio-MIDI Setup (CoreMIDI utility) create a dummy MIDI device called "sync," set to send/receive NO MIDI channels, and set to send/receive MTC. Virtually connect it to the I/O ports of your MIDI interface Physically connect a single MIDI cable from the Out port to the In set DP to "Slave to External Sync" set DP's "Receive Sync" to MTC, and to receive on the "sync" I/O port you've just created Open a Quicktime video in DP Make sure DP is set to Slave Play-arm DP (press Play while it is in Slave) Begin playback in Reaper DP's video and timeline should play in sync! Let me know if this works for anyone else. Happy happy joy joy!
